 Cost Type

  • Regular costs (R) are also called “front-line or base” costs.  These are a distributor’s normal prices.  Regular costs have an effective date but do NOT have an end date.

  • Temporary costs (T) are costs set up with both effective date and end dates.  Like a Promotional Cost, a Temporary Cost overrides the Regular Cost for a set period of time.  For example, $4.99 from 11/09/2006 to 11/17/2006.

  • Promotional costs (P) have both an effective and an end date.  For example, $0.50 off each case from 10/01/2006 to 10/31/2006.  A distributor enters these costs through the Promotion System.

  • Informational costs (I) are a special type of promotional cost, and have both an effective and end date.  Informational costs are related to Promotional Costs in that they explain the conditions of a cost.  For example, a promotion on cases of beer might display “BUY 10 GET $0.25 OFF” in a report. A distributor enters these costs through the Promotion System.

Costs are shown as Informational (I) when:

    • More than one purchase option or condition is offered, such as Quantity Discount with Allowance deals with more than one level.

    • A promotional deal contains text information, such as in Free Goods or Ad Feature (Special Price) deal.

Column

 Field Name

Description

L

 Unit Cost

Distributor's price for the sell unit.  For example, if the Net Cost for a case

of two 12-packs is $22.50, the Unit Cost is $11.25.

M

 Handling Method

If the Cost Type is P or I, the Handling Method describes how the

promotional savings are passed on to the retailer.

  • Off Invoice - The distributor's invoice to the retailer lists the promotional cost.  This is the most common method.

  • Bill Back - The allowance does not appear on the distributor's invoice.  Instead the retailer  tracks the allowances accrued and bills the difference back to the distributor.

N

 Promotional

 Description of the promotional cost.

O

 Sug. Retail

Distributor's Suggested Retail Price (SRP) for the sell unit.
