Manage Rounding Rules

Use this screen to configure a retailer's "psychological" rounding rules.  These rules adjust the PTC (Price to Consumer) of an item to meet the retailer's marketing strategy.  For example, if the calculated retail ends in $x.36 through $x.41, then round the price to $x.39.*

* To safeguard proprietary information, all examples listed herein are fictitious.

Export Note:  Changing a rounding rule generates a VMP 879 pricing export.

Follow these steps:

From the Vendor Managed Pricing tab:

  1. Click Manage Rounding Rules.

  2. If displayed, select the psychological Category.

Note:  To add a Category or change its name, see Manage Item Categories.

  1. Work with the rounding rules as needed.  Use the following descriptions as a guide.

  2. Click Save.

About the Rounding Rules Table

The table on this screen is laid out as From/To values with a Round Cost result for each.  All values refer to the "cents" or decimal portion of a PTC.

For example:

From 0, To 15, Round Cost 09.  All prices ending in $x.00, $x.01, through $x.15 are rounded to $x.09.  When calculating PTCs, $5.14 becomes $5.09.

From 16, To 29, Round Cost 21.  All prices ending in $x.16, $x.17, through $x.29 are rounded to $x.21.  When calculating PTCs, $9.18 becomes $9.21.

Working with Rounding Rules

Be sure to click Save after all changes are made.

To change the Round Cost for an interval, simply enter the new value as a whole number.  For example, enter $x.29 as 29.

To change a From / To interval, select the interval and use the Down or Up buttons.  This changes the selected To value, while automatically adjusting the From value in the next interval.

To delete an interval, select the interval and use the Down or Up buttons to match the previous or next From value.

For example, in From 10, To 19, adjusting the 19 Down to 10 removes the interval.  The surrounding intervals adjust to fill the gap.

  1. To split an interval, allowing rules to be set for smaller ranges, select the interval, enter a split value (by the link), and click Split Interval At.  The new interval will begin at the split value plus 1.

For example:

Current: From 15, To 28

Desired: From 15, To 20 and From 21, To 28

      1. Select From 15, To 28.

      2. Enter a split value of 20.

      3. Click Split Interval At.

      4. Enter new Round Costs for each interval.

Be sure to click Save!
