The products you manufacture or distribute are called items in Prescient applications. As a member of a GDSN Data Pool, your item information is provided to Prescient by the pool.
Prescient's systems allow you enhance your item data with costs, retails, and promotions. Item "intersection" data can also be added, such as SKUs and merchandise categories specific to a retailer.
About Proxy Items
On occasion, a supplier may send costs, promotions, or other data in batch before the associated item arrives from the Data Pool. When this happens, a Proxy Item is created as a placeholder for your data. Once the actual item data arrives, the Proxy Item is automatically deleted.
The designated contacts in your company are alerted to Proxy Item creation through the Suppler Item Error Report. Although not necessarily an error, this alert provides you with an opportunity to review the "Item Identification" to ensure the cost or other data was sent for the correct item.
Note: You should only delete a Proxy Item if the data was sent for an invalid item (due to an incorrect item order number, UPC, etc.). If the item ID is correct, and the item simply hasn't arrived from the GDSN Data Pool, leave the Proxy Item in place.
Working Online in Prescient
Most data transfers to and from Prescient take place using records sent in "batch," such as through EDI transactions. This means that very little online work is required. However, you can perform almost any task online. This help is here to assist you with those tasks.
Because your item data is maintained by your GDSN Data Pool, the options available for working with your item data online are limited to viewing items and item offers. However, Prescient's online application provides a variety of tools for working with and reviewing price, promotion, and retailer item information.
You will find the reports helpful in your everyday transactions. We recommend using the Cost Report for an overall view of your items, costs, and promotions. This report is available in both RTF and CSV formats and can be displayed online.

You may find it helpful to print the topic for easy access. For best results, use the Print button located at the beginning of each topic.
Note: You will find the terms "provider" and "subscriber" used in this help. These terms differentiate between data providers (senders) and data subscribers (recipients). In general, provider is used to mean supplier and subscriber is used to mean retailer.
